Guided Moose Hunting

Mayflower Outfitters offers guided moose hunting on Newfoundland’s Great Northern Peninsula. Enjoy hunting in one of the most remote parts of the island, and evening retreats to our lakeside balsam fir lodge. Hunts are open to residents and visitors alike. Last year, our moose hunts had a 97% success rate!

Moose

The moose in Newfoundland — the Eastern Canadian Moose — grow big. On average, large bulls are about 1,100 - 1,200 pounds with some approaching the 1,400-pound range. Adult cows average about 800-900 pounds. We’re proud to share that in recent years, there have been several Boone & Crockett racks taken during our hunts.

Animal Density

Even though the island is so big, it has the densest moose population in North America — and the best moose hunting to match! There are an estimated 150,000 moose on the island. According to aerial survey figures by the Canadian Wildlife Division, our hunting area (Moose Management Unit 40) has an estimated moose population of approximately 6,330 animals. Plus, it has an estimated cow-to-bull ratio of approximately 60:40!

The Hunt

Mayflower Outfitters offer several options for big game hunting, from guided hunts to trophy hunts. Hunters can choose to be accompanied by their own personal guide (1:1 hunter to guide ratio) or a guide can be shared amongst two hunters (2:1 hunter to guide ratio).
